Northern Alberta has seven new Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST's) today after a three day training session and certifying clinic in Slave Lake, AB.  Participants from the health centers of Loon River, Whitefish Lake, Woodland Cree, Peerless-Trout and Lubicon Lake attended the session hosted by KTC Child & Family Services and facilitated by the Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada.

All participants learned about the mechanics of a collision, the legislation governing child restraints and the different stages of child restraint systems and how they work. The course included hands-on practice in order to feel comfortable with different methods of installation and guidance on how to help parents and caregivers select and use car seats and booster seats correctly.

The new CPSTs (Jody Laderoute, Joanna Shaw, Wendy Spence, Debbie Laboucan, Gloria Auger, Laurel Noskiye and Helen Calliou) can help with seat installations, checks, education and awareness in each of their First Nations as well as work together to conduct car seat clinics.
